SAMPLING

Product Selection > Containment & Product Protection > Others > Sampling

Containment is one of the most important areas to be considered when designing sampling equipment. Operator exposure levels (OEL) must be minimized to protect staff during sampling and charging.

There are significant GMP benefits to this mode of operation as it negates the need for open handling and protection of the surrounding area, thus preventing cross contamination from other processes and extensive cleaning.

Glovebox Technology

Our containment glovebox is intended to offer measurable protection to the user and the environment for hazards associated with handling potent materials.

Containment gloveboxes can consistently guarantee containment levels into the nano-gram range.

The use of PPE as a primary source of protection is generally not a recommended solution and PPE (if required) must be the secondary method of protection.

An extract from the Hierarchy of control statement states: “In devising specific corrective measures, follow the hierarchy of control, that is, process modification, engineering or administrative controls are to be used, if feasible, instead of personal protective equipment (PPE).”

ProSys Sampling Systems Ltd can carry out OEL and leaktightness testing of glove boxes in accordance with SMEPAC guidelines (Standardised Measurement of Equipment Particulate Airborne Concentration)

The SMEPAC guide provides a standardized method of measuring the performance of containment systems against a specific challenge and aims to provide a common basis for manufacturers and users of how to perform the tests and how to analyse and present the results.

Containment Testing

High Containment Factory Acceptance Tests can include:

    • Containment Performance – Surrogate material testing.
    • Leak performance – Pressure / Vacuum testing.
    • Ergonomics – Operations, Controls, Maintenance.
    • Documentation – GA, P&ID, material checks.
    • Construction documentation – ATEX, CE, IQ.
    • Lighting & Noise levels.
    • Surface finishes, cleanability, drainability,
    • Airflows, pressures, injection times.
    • Instrumentation accuracy.
    • Connections to pressure systems.

Needle Septum Technology

Needle septum technology, employing the use of a process and vent needle, can be used for increased containment of the sample bottle when taking pure liquid samples.
